Award season... what?!

Tuesday, 6 July 2010 03:51 by david
Coming home from vacation I found this on my doorstep.
It was from Highlights for Children for one of the best illustrations of the year.
My first thought was I understand if it was from a publication that uses
1 illustration a year.... but come on. Thanks!

I thought Cover designer Pablo Colon has done an amazing job with the illustration.

Du Jour

Friday, 11 June 2010 08:59 by david

Sorry for the lack of posts. It really has been probably the longest gap for me since starting the blog. My wife, kids, and I have been in Brasil for the last month on vacation/family/missions trip and we are ready to be home. We already had to delay our return back to NJ twice due to sickness.

A couple of positives to staying in the land of soccer is being able to watch the first couple matches of the 2010 World Cup. I have been looking forward to this for four years! And of course my 3 girls now have new jerseys. So cute.

I was also invited to visit a exhibition opening of illustrations about the world cup here in Rio, Craques do cartum no Copa. It had some illustrations from all time great artists including a new friend Gustavo Duarte.

Here is one of the illustrations I completed while down here. I  did not think I would have to do finals while here, but when duty calls..... you find a way. This illustration was actually completed by painting in photoshop over a photograph of my sketch. I am sooooo thankful that my style allowed me to work like this.

Here is a cover for a magazine on Summer fiction.
If you look in the sky you will see a jet stream.
I want to thank Steven Walker for his help. That stream is deadicated to him.
I will post the final cover when it is published.
